Laura Bennati-Rassion - Hiking Guide & Volcanologist
It all started, of course, with the mountains. I come from a family of ski instructors, mountain hut wardens, and amateur mountaineers… Thanks to them, I spent my childhood surrounded by nature. As a young adult, I studied Earth Sciences in Nice and quickly specialized in volcanology in Clermont-Ferrand, then in Paris, before completing my studies at Purdue University in the United States. I spent five years in the corporate world working at ExxonMobil. But I felt trapped in an office… so one day, I walked away from it all to return to the field, where the Earth comes alive and where people marvel at its wonders.
I’m the only one who holds both a Mountain Guide certification and degrees in volcanology. This isn’t a coincidence, it’s a lifetime’s journey that has led me here. Today, my job is to take you hiking in the mountains and on active volcanoes during trips that combine sports, scientific knowledge, and contemplation. I’ve fulfilled my childhood dream, and I’m the person I’ve always wanted to be !
A remarkable journey...and above all, a unique one !

And on the field !
I'm not hiking guide who has only seen active volcanoes from a distance as a tourist. Of course, I went there for my own enjoyment. But I have also carried out numerous scientific missions. Field studies, data collection, approaching erupting volcanic craters using safety protocols that only researchers are familiar with… I have gained extensive experience in active volcanic terrain.
It's this dual role that makes my trips unique : You’ll benefit from real-world experience that traditional agencies can’t offer you.
🌋 Piton de la Fournaise – France
1 mission · active lava flow survey and lava sampling
🌋 Etna – Italy
1 mission · walking across an active lava flow and approaching erupting craters
🌋 Vesuvius – Italy
1 mission · descent into the active crater – an extremely rare experience, inaccessible to the general public
🌋 Stromboli & Vulcano – Italy
4 missions · approaching erupting craters each time
🌋 Erta Ale & the Afar Rift Valley – Ethiopia
6 missions · including 3 that approached the active lava lake
🌋 Ubinas (5,434 m) & Misti (5,838 m) – Peru
3 missions · ascents to active craters
🌋 Santa Maria / Santiaguito – Guatemala

WOW WOW WOW. I recently hiked the full Tour du Mont Blanc with Laura and she truly made this experience unforgettable. I could not recommend her more as a group or individual guide. Laura is the whole package - she is encouraging, incredibly knowledgeable, hilarious, understanding, adaptable, attentive, etc. A guide can truly make or break your trip and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to guide us for 12 days. You can truly tell how much she loves this region and how passionate she is to share her knowledge with you. I loved learning so much about the different wildlife, glaciers, mountain peaks, culture, etc from her. I sincerely hope I get to go on another trip guided by her in the future!!Publié sur Google Nathalie RACLOTTrustindex vérifie que la source originale de l'avis est Google. Hiked the TMB with Laura, she is absolutely amazing. So knowledgeable about the area and the trails. Provided history of cultural areas and information about the mountains, foliage and animals. She is also so sweet, funny, and understanding. An absolutely amazing guide that catered to the needs of the entire group and adjusted accordingly. She did a great job planning the whole trip, which huts to stay in, breaking the hike up in the perfect amount of mileage and elevation per day, and coordinated everything including meals every day. I wish I could have Laura as my guide on every trip. I recently completed the Tour du Mont Blanc and I was fortunate to have Laura as my guide! Her vast knowledge of the area and her confidence on the trail made this challenging trek so much more enjoyable. Even when we had hot weather and people weren’t feeling well, she encouraged us onward and always kept the atmosphere upbeat! I would highly recommend Laura as your guide for anyone who is considering the TMB or other treks! I cannot recommend Laura highly enough. Her experience and professionalism were evident every single day of the trek we shared. She had an incredible depth of knowledge about the mountains and wildlife, which made the entire experience so much richer. What impressed me most was how attentive, compassionate, and adaptable she was. Whenever someone in the group wasn’t feeling well or needed to adjust their plans, she always had a solution and was able to make arrangements quickly and seamlessly. Her calm confidence made everyone feel safe, supported, and well cared for. I experienced this firsthand when I became sick during the trek. Laura personally carried my backpack when I wasn’t feeling well, going far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect of a guide. She also arranged transportation so I could get to our next accommodation safely. Her kindness, generosity, and genuine concern made a challenging day so much easier, and I’ll never forget it. If you’re considering hiking with Laura, I can’t imagine being in better hands. She is truly an exceptional guide, and I would choose to hike with her again without hesitation. Thank you, Laura, for an unforgettable experience! I had the privilege of working alongside Laura as the trip ambassador and photographer on a 12-day Tour du Mont Blanc trek for More Girls Outdoors, and I can’t say enough good things about her. Laura is incredibly knowledgeable, organized, and genuinely passionate about the mountains. She shared fascinating insights about the geology, glaciers, and surrounding landscape that made the experience so much richer. She also handled everything from travel logistics to unexpected trip modifications due to illness with professionalism and care. What stood out most was how she connected with everyone in the group. She has the perfect mix of patience, encouragement, humor, and just enough sass to keep spirits high on the toughest days. She creates an environment where everyone feels supported, capable, and excited to be there. If you’re looking for a guide who truly cares about her guests and loves what she does, Laura is one of the best. I’d hike with her again in a heartbeat. Incredible guide that will go above and beyond for you.
